Napkin Tivoli Solveig Linen by Le Jacquard Francais
The "Tivoli Solveig" collection is the result of a beautiful encounter between two houses with artisanal know-how. The jacquard weaving of the interlacing of scrolls and plants is mixed with vegetable dyes like watercolors on a painting. Cachou, madder, Japanese sophora and indigo create a subtle gradation of bold, springtime colors. The gesture of the craftsman associated with the chance of immersion in the dye bath creates so many poetic accidents that make each piece unique. The four colours, "Earth", "Fire", "Water" and "Wood", imagined for this collection refer to the elements of nature and carry within them the simplicity and purity of plant colours. The items, dyed by hand, are pieces of unsold stock from former "Tivoli" collections, woven in France. They find through this collaboration of upcycling a second life. The vegetable dyeing process is long and meticulous. It starts with washing the fabrics to rid them of all impurities. Then comes the mordanting stage which prepares the fiber to receive the vegetable dye, this stage is done with alum salt. Finally comes the dye bath, where fresh or dried and crushed plants are heated to 80°. The dosage is established according to the intensity of the desired color and the weight of the fabric. The Eau color is obtained by an indigo oxidation process. stage of the mordant which prepares the fiber to receive the vegetable dye, this stage is done with alum salt.
